Mizzou Aquatic Center Guidelines

General Guidelines
  • Mizzou Aquatic Center Staff has final authority on all matters in the Mizzou Aquatic Center and will restrict any activity deemed unsafe.
  • In case of emergency, the Emergency Action Plan is started by one long whistle blast. All patrons must exit the pool immediately, and follow instructions from Mizzou Aquatic Center Staff.
  • The use of any part of the Mizzou Aquatic Center is prohibited unless supervised by a lifeguard.
  • To maintain safety, the Mizzou Aquatic Center Staff may require patrons to demonstrate swimming ability.
  • Patrons with skin diseases, infections or open sores, or who have had diarrhea within the last two weeks are not permitted to use the pools.
  • Swimmers wearing adhesive tape or bandages will not be permitted in the pools unless bandages are removed.
  • Only Coast Guard approved flotation devices are permitted.  Water wings, baby floats, inner tubes, and rings are not permitted.  Kick boards, aqua jogger belts and pull buoys are not personal floatation devices.
  • Purposeful hyperventilation is prohibited.
  • Showers are encouraged before entering the pools or the whirlpool to maintain sanitary conditions.
  • Nose blowing and spitting in the pool or gutters is prohibited.
  • Footwear is required outside of the pool decks, locker rooms, and Martial Arts Studio.
  • Direct parental supervision and active engagement are required for children in the Student Recreation Complex and Mizzou Aquatic Center.
  • Proper swimming attire is required. Thongs and street clothes are prohibited.
  • Running or horseplay is not permitted in any areas of the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
  • Gum chewing and food are not allowed in the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
  • Metal objects that will cause rust, such as bobby pins, glass, including masks with glass faceplates, are prohibited.
  • Please do not block emergency exits.
  • Only lessons registered with MizzouRec Services and Facilities are permitted in the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
  • Water polo or other water games, which require the use of a ball, may not be permitted in any of the pools without prior authorization from the aquatic office.
  • Soft foam balls and small toys are allowed during Open Swim in the Tiger Grotto only. These toys must be used in a safe manner and not endanger other patrons.  Tennis balls, footballs, hard balls, squirt guns, etc. are prohibited.
  • Hanging onto lane lines is prohibited.
  • Please secure personal items in a locker.
50M Pool
  • Swimming is permitted only during posted hours in designated lap lanes.
  • Lap swimmers must swim in a circular pattern.
  • No diving allowed. All individuals must use a feet-first entry during recreational swimming in the competition pool.
  • Swimming under the bulkhead is prohibited. Patrons are not permitted to walk across the bulkhead.
  • Starting blocks are for the sole use of approved groups under the supervision of a coach.
  • Pool times and lane availability are subject to change.
Diving Well
  • Swimming is permitted only during posted hours in designated lap lanes.
  • Diving from the side is allowed in designated lap lane areas only or in other parts as determined safe by the Mizzou Aquatic Center staff.
  • Tower and diving boards are for approved group use only.
  • Pool times and lane availability are subject to change.
Tiger Grotto
  • Diving and jumping into the water are not allowed in Tiger Grotto.
  • Only Coast Guard approved flotation devices are permitted.  This includes water wings, baby floats, inner tubes, etc.
  • Direct parental supervision and active engagement are required for children in the Student Recreation Complex and Mizzou Aquatic Center
  • Patrons are not allowed to walk on, jump on or off any of the water walls, islands or fountain.
  • Soft balls, small toys and sinking aides such as rubber bricks, rings and pucks are acceptable with proper use, as determined by the Mizzou Aquatic Center Staff.  Tennis balls, footballs, hard balls, squirt guns, rings, and rafts, are prohibited.
  • Pool times and lane availability are subject to change.
Hot Tub (Diving Well & Tiger Grotto)
  • Use of the hot tub is only permitted for those 17 years of age and older.
  • Limiting use of the hot tub to no more than 15 minutes is recommended.
  • Submerging your head in the hot tub is not recommended due to the extreme water temperature.
  • Jumping over hot tub walls is not permitted.
  • Individuals with health problems such as obesity, heart disease, high or low blood pressure, circulatory problems, diabetes, seizures, epilepsy, who are pregnant, or who are taking medication should consult their physician before using the hot tub.
  • The hot tub should not be used immediately after strenuous exercise.
Truman’s Pond
  • Proper swimming attire is required. Thongs and street clothes are prohibited.
  • Food is not permitted in Truman’s Pond.
  • Only drinks in resealable containers are allowed. Cans and cups are not allowed.
  • Diving is not permitted in Truman’s Pond.
  • Pool times and lane availability are subject to change.
Sauna Hut & Steam Shack
  • The temperature and timer for the sauna and steam room are set by the Mizzou Aquatic Center Staff.
  • Individuals with health problems such as obesity, heart disease, high or low blood pressure, circulatory problems, diabetes, seizures, epilepsy, who are pregnant, or who are taking medication should consult their physician before using the whirlpool.
  • The sauna and steam room should not be used immediately after strenuous exercise.
  • Exercise is not permitted in the sauna or steam room.
  • Proper swimming attire is required. Thongs and street clothes are prohibited.
  • Sitting on a towel while in the sauna and steam room is required.
  • Pouring water on or tending the sauna rocks is prohibited.
  • Limiting use of the sauna and steam room to no more than 15 minutes is recommended.
  • To prevent dehydration, it is recommended that members consume plenty of fluids before and after sauna and steam room use.
